Last weekend Dara and I went for a walk (aka shopping). We’re super excited because we are getting a new apartment with a bit more space and have already began talking paint colors, furniture layout, the style we want for the new place, and also stalking design blogs. On our “walk” we just happened to come across our design idol’s store so we couldn’t resist taking a breather in the store. We popped into the Jonathan Adler SoHo location to dream about buying everything in the store. We left with this bad boy: Palm Beach Sunshine candle….the most amazing scent you will ever have the pleasure of smelling in your entire life. I normally don’t really care about candles that much, but this is one of those candles that you can smell even when you are not burning it.
So while we didn’t leave with the $2,200 Peruvian rug, or the $200 piece of pottery, we did get one amazing candle. And that my friends, is a successful walk shopping trip.

I just purchased these bad boys and I already want one in each color. Cole Haan makes these awesome Saddle Oxfords, and they have Nike Air Technology in the sole for added comfort. I’m breaking them in NOW!

Yesterday was my wife’s birthday and I wanted to do something special for her. I’m the guy that buys flowers and surprises his wife with them every other week, so no ordinary homemade arrangement would do. It was a rainy, cold (50 degrees) winter May day but this beautiful arrangement from Poppies & Posies definitely brightened Dara’s birthday. I’ve been a fan of Sierra and Juliet’s amazing work for quite some time and thought it would be fun to surprise the birthday girl at work with a vintage vase filled with these:

My wife ROCKS!
no really…she does
Dara has been taking a few classes at FIT this semester and I couldn’t be more proud of her. It’s not easy to balance work, life, school and having me as a needy husband, but she does it! In all honesty, I think she is superwoman.
When I got a text from Dara saying she got an A on her recent project, I was so pumped for her…not because it was an A, but because it was an A in one of those classes where the teacher doesn’t give A’s.
Dara made this planner cover out of leather for her leather manipulation class. I think she should sell these.

It’s time for another round of Things I like.
Today’s LIKE is really two in one!
Drum Roll PLEASE…..
OUR NEW RUG & BEING HOME!
I know the suspense was absolutely killing you. After being away from home for 10 days, it has been so great to be back in our tiny little shoebox apartment. After staying at the Hotel Palomar in Philly for our anniversary, me & the mrs. have been inspired to give our 465 sq. foot apartment the feeling of that beautiful room. We started with the rug. We had a great rug before! It was perfect for what we needed it for at the time, and we got a CRAZZZZZZZZZZZY good deal on it. Let’s just say we were on hold with West Elm while they physically pulled the LAST one on their warehouse shelves. The best part was that we got a 5×8 West Elm rug for under $50(with shipping included). But we wanted a little more of a grown up rug with a graphic pattern, so our west elm deal is now living a happy life in our storage unit.
We once again didn’t want to spend a ton of money on a rug that will get lots of traffic. My beautiful wife found these in the flor catalog and we immediately called the great people at flor and placed an order. Flor tiles are the perfect solution for us!
Here is our new rug:

I absolutely adore, overly enjoy, slightly obsess over Stumptown Coffee. Many people that know me, know that I am not a huge fan of coffee. Until recently, the only “coffee” thing I like was a caramel macchiato from starbucks that had to have added raw sugar for a sweeter taste. I still love the Iced Green Tea from Starbucks, but I have found a new coffee beverage obsession! It goes a little like this STUMP-TOWN. A friend of mine and fellow NYC photographer, Spencer Lum, introduced me to the amazing tastes of Stumptown. It’s new to NYC and shares an uber trendy lobby/ chill out place with the AHHHH-MAZING Ace Hotel.
Located on 29th Street between 5th Ave and Broadway, just a hop, skip and a jump away on the yellow line from our apartment, Dara and I find ourselves getting cravings for this new wave coffee bean. GQ recently ranked it on “The Most Important Drink of Your Day” as the gold standard of Third Wave espresso.

Below are some images from the stumptown website; love this place!

I have introduced all of my blog readers to my wife, Dara, in an earlier post, but I realized a few days back that I have yet to introduce everyone another part of our family. Lola is our four-pound Yorkshire Terrier who made the big move with us to New York in May (sadly, her brother & sister are with my loving parents in Texas now because our building allows only one pup per apartment).
She has adapted quite well to the city life and loves all of the attention she gets when we walk her, thanks to the bows that her mom LOVES to put in her hair. Lola is one of a kind.
very entertaining. never a dull moment. loves to play & wag her tail.
If you spot this pup on the streets of NYC, you should note that she loves to be petted and will gladly accept treats. More to come in Part two of Meet our NEW YORKie.

Every Thursday I will be posting a link or image or thought of something I like. I find inspiration from so many things and would love to share it with you guys.
For the first Things I Like Thursday, I wanted to talk about a blog I follow quite regularly, {BLACK.WHITE.YELLOW}. When I first started developing my brand I knew the colors I wanted to use and this blog would pop up many times. This recent post recent {black.white.yellowGREY(oh my)} post caught my eye featuring home interior design by NoChintz.

Speaking of developing my brand, I would not have the amazing logo I do today without the help of my GREAT friend and graphic design extraordinaire Courtney. You can follow Courtney on twitter or read her fabulous design & fashion blog over at Design Sketchbook. Also say a little prayer for Courtney, as she is battling the SWINE FLU right now. Get Well SOON!
